When Dare2Tri started running their Injured Military Clinic at Leon's Triathlon I became more drawn to the organization and their mission. Here is an organization that assists people with physical disabilities and visual impairments compete in the sport of triathlon. I always hear people with no disabilities and good sight tell me why they can't compete in a triathlon yet here are physically challenged athletes going to the next level to race that race. Dare2Tri's motto is "One Inspires Many" and that is so true. I have met may parathletes vets throught the years while I served as a volunteer leader in Team RWB and I am proud of everyone of them and one they have accomplished and yes I am inspired everytime I see them race live or through facebook.
They have obstacles and those obstacles come with a price tag. This year I have decided to step up and race the Chicago Triathlon in a charity capacity and raise the funds to help others be able to do what they want to do. Just to give you an idea here are some costs associated for these atheletes.
- $1,000 covers operating costs for two recreational athletes for one season
- $3,500 purchases a racing wheelchair
- $4,000 secures a tandem bicycle
- $5,500 covers the cost of a racing hand bicycle
- $10,000 covers the cost of a prosthetic running leg
I hope you come out August 26, 2018 and cheer these atheletes on.
Dare2tri transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities and visual impairments by helping them be active through the sport of triathlon. It’s more than just the swim, bike, and run—Dare2tri is a community of people that believe ability is limitless when you set your mind to something. Dare2tri builds confidence and self-worth, and makes physical activity a way of life for people of all abilities.
Dare2tri is proud to partner with the Transamerica Chicago Triathlon to build a fundraising team. All funds raised by the Dare2tri Race2Raise Team will provide equipment, training, and programs that give people with physical disabilities and visual impairments the opportunity to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
